Better to Give or Recieve?

We went to see The Giver. It it worthy of discussion. The movie takes place in a world where emotions are discouraged and freedoms are curtailed. Sameness is striven for.  The message is that when choice is removed, knowledge is repressed and so is  the ability to experience true joy. In justifying the society, the Chief Elder (Meryl Streep) says—"when humans are given choices they choose wrong every time". Full equality is bland.
