Just Short...again

BYU came up short again against a power 5 opponent. It appears more and more likely that BYU will not ever be part of the Big 12 because of our 'discriminatory' honor code. Independence will be the permanent state of things in football.
I took a ride out in the desert. The monsoon rains have made the trails much more rutted...

...and over grown.

Here are the Owl Head Buttes.

Football Blues

Two weeks straight BYU has disappointed with losses to PAC12 opponents of 3 points or less. The Utah game was the most disappointing while the UCLA game was the most frustrating. Taysom still has work to do to get in sync with his receivers. Our best results seem to occur in white jerseys.

Felicia is trying to decide on carpet and tile for the master bedroom and bathroom. I like the brown.

If you are looking for a show to binge watch, I recommend season one of Poldark on Amazon. Interesting story of the life of a British veteran of the American Revolutionary War. It stars Kili the dwarf.

Felicia and I enjoyed the movie "Sully" over the weekend. Apparently some members of the NTSB didn't think they were portrayed accurately.
Here is a barrel cactus in full bloom after the monsoon.

University of Phoenix Football

First, one more picture from our trip to Texas and our visit with Krystal's parents and the get-to-know-you game.

The University of Phoenix does not have a football team. It does not have a sports team of any sort, but it has paid $154M to put its name for 20 years on one of the premier stadiums in the country, formerly Cardinal Stadium in Glendale, AZ. This week the stadium played host to BYU and U of A in the first Cactus Kickoff Classic. Felicia and I went to cheer the blue and white. The results made it a happy occasion.

We met Kent and Susie Shipley for dinner at the entertainment complex near the stadium. Cougar fans were everywhere. We put or name on the list at a Mama Gino's Pizza and waited. Nothing was happening after 20 minutes so we decided to change to order takeout. There were picnic tables on the green in front of the restaurant. No sooner did we order than a table became available so we had to change to having them deliver my already-paid-for pizza to the table on a pan instead of in a box.

I paid 10 times too much for the ticket we had. That is a lesson to remember, but at least the game didn't disappoint.

This is our view of the field and the "Pride of Arizona" marching band.

We sat near Algernon Brown's dad. This a picture of him standing in a subdued moment.

Here is the touchdown pass play to Pearson. He is at the edge of the picture crossing the goal line.
