Reunion 2019 - Big Bear, CA

We were able to get all of our children and grandchildren together in Big Bear, California or the July 4th holiday. We rented a VRBO cabin that was just the right size for us.

But first we had to all arrive. Felicia and Haley and I drove to Glendora on Monday 7/1. We went to Newport Beach with Alison and the grand kids on 7/2, then picked up Eric and Krystal at the airport that night. We all drove up to Big Bear on 7/3.

Hear is a link to a video chronicling the activities.

On the way up the mountain, we made the mistake of letting John play video games. He was not looking out the window as we zigzagged up the road. I asked several times if everyone was OK or if we needed to stop and get out for a bit. Everyone voted to keep going...until suddenly Haley yelled, "Pull over, John is not well!"

It was too late. John vomited all over himself and the truck. We had nothing to clean up with except water and some towels. John said, "This is why I didn't want to come up here. This is the worst idea ever!"

When we finally got to the cabin and John was able to see the cabin, John said, "I thought this was the worst trip ever, but it turned out to be the best trip ever!"

We went to a carved wood shop
While e were looking at a carved wood shop, the first earthquake of our vacation occurred. I didn't notice because we were running around this store, but others sitting down noticed.

Felicia liked these chairs...$600
We went to the Alpine Slide. John didn't like his first trip down the hill with me, but had a lot of fun with Eric.

That evening was the fireworks. We hiked to a viewing area.

The next day I took John to the playground, Haley took some family photos, I went to the mountain top in the truck...

When I got back I walked in the door and Alison immediately asked if I felt it.
"Felt what?"
"The earthquake!"
Alison pointed at the chandelier swaying back and forth over the dining table. John was in the tub at the time of the quake, a 7.1 centered at Ridgecrest, and experienced a lot of water sloshing.

Once again, I didn't feel it because I was in the truck or walking.

The next morning we all went to breakfast and then traveled home.
